Furano – The Resort...

Of all of the 500 ski resorts in Japan, it is Furano which consistently boasts the best quality and quantity of powder snow. Its average snowfall is over 9 metres and it has a consistent base of more than 3 metres all season ensuring superb conditions no matter when you travel. Furano is much less known than its Hokkaido neighbours and so still offers that off the beaten track feel which isn’t available in Niseko. The mountain offers something for everyone with a good spread of terrain and some excellent tuition available making it a superb choice for groups and families, as well as powder hunters.

The skiing and boarding in Furano

Furano offers a fantastic range of skiing from wide easy cruisers to steep, intense terrain making sure that everyone will enjoy their time on the mountain. The huge snowfalls which come regularly over Furano ensure there is always untracked powder to find and the sunny skies each day make it perfect for skiing. Beginners are best to head straight to the base areas of Furano and Kitanomine zone where there are lots of easy cruisers, while intermediates can reign free over the mountain and enjoy the space and gentle rollers. Advanced skiers are best to head to the un-groomed areas of Freakozawor and Kumatoshi where they will find deep powder and the steepest areas on the mountain.

The après ski in Furano

Furano has a good nightlife with several traditional Japanese bars; in particular Akacho Chin and Robata. Live music can be found on most nights at Kitsutsuki where often you can find the bar owner wowing crowds on his guitar. If you want to feel more at home then head to Furano-Bar-Bocco which has a more western feel and English is widely spoken. Other activities available in Furano is the Asahikawa Arctic Zoo, Snowshoe trekking, dog sledding and night skiing just to name a few. One thing is for sure, you’ll never have a dull moment once you come off the slopes in Furano.

Off Piste

Furano is nicknamed the 'Naval of Hokkaido' for its central location on the island of Hokkaido. The snow that falls in this region is some of the lightest powder in the world due to cold temperatures and low humidity levels.

Furano Ski Resort is conveniently located next to Furano town-ship. It is a very traditional part of Japan that has breathtaking scenery, nestled between the Yubari Range and the mountains of Diasetsuzan National Park. Furano is a good base to access several other resorts in the region, all of which receive snow from different directions, which means that there are always good snow options. We like to be flexible, and travel to the area that has the best weather and snow conditions for the day.
