The ski resort of Panorama is a charming, purpose built resort above the lakeside town of Invermere in Eastern British Columbia. The combination of attractive lodges and gentle tree trails makes Panorama ideal for anyone wanting the Canadian ski experience in a relaxing and agreeable environment. Comprising of a Lower and Upper village, Panorama holds something for everyone, possessing excellent après-ski opportunities and wonderfully diverse skiing terrain.

The ski resort of Panorama has an unjust reputation for consisting mainly easy and intermediate trails. Indeed, it does cater brilliantly for the complete novice and practised intermediate, possessing some gentle pistes and tree trails. In particular, the nursery area consisting of good nursery lifts and a moving carpet lift makes the Panorama an ideal family friendly and beginner resort.
Nevertheless, the ski resort of Panorama does possess some challenging and beautiful terrain for the advanced intermediate and expert skier. Panorama’s Taynton Bowl, provides the adventurous intermediate with 1,000 acres of gullies, chutes and entertaining tree-skiing making it a challenging off piste playground for the more advanced. Indeed, with a vertical of 1220m/4,000ft, Panorama’s Taynton Bowl is one of the steepest in any North America resort. Alternatively, intermediate skiers in Panorama can sample the powder partial Sun Bowl, the steep trails of the Extreme Dream Zone or the great rollercoaster ride of Millennium.
The ski resort of Panorama has also developed a great reputation as a base for Heli-skiing, comprising of 1,500 sq km /930 square miles of incredible terrain in the spectacular Purcell Mountains. The RK Heli- Ski based in Panorama Mountain village offers one-day sessions set at a comfortable pace and supervised by an ACMG certified guide, for those keen to try their hand at Heli-skiing.
With annual snowfalls of up to 1,100cm or 36 feet, the panoramic scenery, expansive glaciers and tree-lined skiing offers skiers and snowboarders a large scope for skiing in Panorama. Furthermore, the ski resort of Panorama has two terrain parks which deliver diverse skiing opportunities. In particular, the Showzone Park is arguably the best terrain park in the Rockies, comprising of tabletops, spines, rails and fun boxes. It is also one of the Rockies largest, with over 1km of features, which are reassuringly supervised by full-time volunteers.
For those looking for something a bit different in the ski resort of Panorama, there are an additional 10km/6 miles of Cross-Country trails starting at the Nordic Centre in the resort’s mountain village. Furthermore, it is worth noting that the ski resort of Panorama is included in the Canadian Rockies Super Pass which covers eight other resorts – Banff- Lake Louise, Fernie, Nakiska, Kimberly and Fortress Mountain.

From reliable Rockie mountain restaurants to ice-fishing and torch lit descents, après-ski in Panorama means that you will never be at a loss as to what to do when taking a break from skiing the idyllic mountains. Visitors to Panorama can reserve a table at the Elkhorn cabin, a tiny and charming old mountain hut complete with a toasty log fire. Similar excellent standards can be found at Earl Grey Lodge, Wildfire Grill and the Heli-Plex Restaurant. Be sure to also check out the events on offer at Panorama’s ski school, which organises anything from torch lit descents to horse drawn wagon rides followed by a chilli around a campfire!
The ski resort of Panorama also has a fairly lively après-ski scene of lively bars and late night music venues. Visitors to Panorama can swing by the Crazy Horse Saloon which often has live music and always a great genial atmosphere. Similarly, the Jackpine Pub in the Horsethief Lodge hosts a similar fun-loving crowd. Be sure to also check out the Earl Grey Lodge which has upmarket cocktails and sushi as well the late night Glacier Nightclub.
When not quenching their thirst or satisfying their hunger, visitors to the ski resort of Panorama can also sample the more innocent pleasures of dog sledding tours, snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing and skating available throughout the village. Furthermore, guests can take the short trip to the town of Invermere for the hot spa there or check out the affordable mountain art in Panorama’s very own Bavin Glass Cabin.
