Powder Mountain-The resort...

Powder Mountain is one of North America’s hidden gems, known only to the locals and over powered by Utah’s bigger more well known resorts such as Park City and Snowbird. What Powder Mountain lacks in stature it makes up for in both size of terrain and quality of snow, which tops a massive 500 inches a year. It offers a unique experience and is perfect for intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders looking to escape the crowds and enjoy waist deep dry powder in one of North America’s largest ski areas. Powder Mountain doesn’t finish with there with the surprises though, as it has a designated cat-ski area of which the cost of a run starts at just £12 per person.

Situated just 55 miles from Salt Lake International Airport, and 19 miles from Ogden where the accommodation is located, it means only a short transfer is necessary so the majority of your time can be spent on the slopes. Ogden itself is a suburb of Salt Lake City, with a variety of shops and bars nearby and downtown Salt Lake just a short drive away to experience The Gateway shopping district. This really is the perfect off the beaten track experience which is a perfect stand alone holiday or can be adjoined to experience many of Utah’s other first class ski resorts.

The Skiing and Boarding

Powder Mountain is quite a unique mountain and ensures an incredible experience. Spanning more than 7,000 acres, it is the United States’ largest ski area, and it is separated into several portions, meaning that only 2,800 acres is lift served. The remaining terrain is available for a variety of cat and heli-skiing with prices starting at just £12 per run when on a snow cat. Mix that in with more than 500 inches of perfectly dry powder snow each winter and you uncover one of North America’s most exciting and exhilarating skiing experiences. Best of all, you’ll only be sharing with a few individuals on or off the piste. Powder Mountain really is a secret worth keeping!

The Apres Ski

Apres ski at Powder Mountain itself is limited, but there is a better selection within walking distance from the accommodation in Ogden. A basic mixture of bars and restaurants are available to suit most tastes and budgets. For a larger choice, the short ride to downtown Salt Lake gives a livelier atmosphere with an array of bars, restaurants and nightclubs with lots of shops to be found at Gateway shopping district.
