Verbier: The resort...

A true mix of international flare and village culture

Nestling in a wide sunny bowl above the Rhône Valley, with breathtaking views of the mountains that separate Switzerland, Italy and France, Verbier retains a wonderfully alpine charm. As part of the four4 valleys, the ski area is vast, high and varied with over 400km of runs including Thyon, Veysonnaz and Nendaz. Majestic pine trees span out above and below the resort, which, after a fresh snowfall, give an entrancing ‘winter wonderland’ feel to the resort.

The skiing and boarding in Verbier

The Mont Fort Glacier at 3300 metres has guaranteed snow throughout the season and is easily accessible via the largest cable car in Switzerland. For beginners there is a choice of nursery slopes at the back of the village and an excellent ski school. You will soon progress to the sunny slopes of Savoleyres, the gentle tree-lined runs to Tzoumaz and the wide, open slopes of the glacier. While Verbier has plenty for everybody, it has built its reputation as an advanced skiers’ paradise.

Verbier Resort overview

Verbier combines a fashionable resort and a fierce mountain. The resort of Verbier is very beautiful, filled to the brim with attractive chalets and set in a sunny and impressive setting. Some may find the pace of Verbier quite hectic. Keen skiers or snowboarders will love Verbier’s ski areas. There are areas of Verbier that cater for all level of skier and snowboarders, although it is the advanced skiers and snowboarders that really get to utilise Verbier’s mountains to the max. Hire a guide to explore the renowned off-piste areas. The nightlife in Verbier is also able to satisfy every taste, from civilised cocktails to dancing on tables.

Verbier is renowned for its extreme skiing, but it is attractive to many levels of skier and snowboarder. The experts get the run of the mountain, with some amazing freeriding terrain and challenging bumps runs. Beginners and intermediates will also discover extensive terrain to cruise in Verbier. However, the 4 Valleys, at which Verbier lies at the far end, can not realistically be compared to the likes of the 3 Valleys or Paradiski areas, as it is not quite so convenient to explore.

Activities in Verbier include ice climbing, heliskiing/boarding, paragliding, tobogganing, or hanging out at the sports centre where you can swim, have a sauna, ice skate, or play squash or tennis. Verbier attracts a number of World-class events such as the 24 Hour Freeride, the Verbier Ride, the O’Neill Xtreme, the Verbier High Five by Carlsberg and the Xspeedski.
