The skiing and boarding in Whistler |
 |
Skiers and boarders benefit from a superbly integrated network of high-speed lifts, which whisk them to any selection of over 200 marked trails, 3 glaciers and 12 alpine bowls. There are also a large number of dedicated snowboard areas and it is a great destination for heli-skiing. Beginners will benefit from an excellent ski school, intermediates will be able to ski and board a vast array of runs - many tree-lined and in great scenery. Advanced skiers and boarders should head for the bowls and then make the most of the longest vertical drop (1.6 kilometres) in North America. Why not try ‘fresh tracks’; a great way to enjoy a hearty breakfast buffet on the mountain, followed by early access to the slopes.
65 miles north of Whistler you will find the Chilcotin Mountains; the home of TLH and their beautiful Tyax Mountain Lodge.
The mountain area used by TLH is 10 x the size of Les Trois Vallees in France; a massive 830,000 acres with more than 300 ‘runs’. The area receives on average between 40 – 60ft each winter and has just ½ a down day per week (average over the season) which means you gain some of the most reliable heli-ski conditions in the world.
Offering 2 – 7 day packages, TLH is suitable for many levels of skiing from the strong intermediate through to expert and with Whistler so close; it offers a fantastic ski area on which to warm up the legs before heli-skiing. All meals and use of powder skis/snowboards and transceivers included, as well as a full safety briefing before you take to the slopes.
Groups are made up of a maximum of 11 skiers, and there are no more than 2 separate groups per helicopter which increases your mountain time and reduces your waiting time at the bottom of the mountain.
When away from the slopes the Tyax Lodge offers warmth and comfort as well as a variety of activities to help relax. Whether it is pool, a dip in the hot tub or a rub down with the in house masseuse the lodge has it covered. In the rare occurrence of a down day you are able to try out cross country skiing, ice fishing and snowmobiling.
If heading to Whistler and looking for either your first dip into the heli-skiing arena or simply just to take hold of the experience of this incredible mountain range; you will not find better than TLH.
